I have been very inspired to continue creating little morsels of colourful flowery goodness. I've been getting lots of positive feedback and custom requests, so this week I decided to really nail the idea of the "hat-flower". (Like a hair flower but to be worn with your sunhat!) I made another hat flower recently for Miss Flossypots, and that was a glitter flower. (Christmas feels anyone?) This time I wanted to take the concept of spring blooms to it's fullest, with a few different lush tones and tiny shiny beads and detailing. The glitter beads within my flower pieces are in fact all made from scratch by hand, I use wooden beads that I coat and prepare for jewellery + accessories. My mother has always said I am a bit of a magpie and I have to say, it's definitely true. I am naturally attracted to anything that glitters or shines, and especially lots of colour!
Springtime is the best time for beautiful colour rich envrionments for my imagery. Most photographers including me have our peak season during spring and summer, and although I am jam packed with weddings this season I love finding the time to capture so many of the beautiful spots that pop up in the warmer weather. The Parnell Rose Gardens is actually one of my favourite spots, particularly the Nancy Steen garden which mimics an impressionist painting! There are a whole range of colours there, and late in the afternoon the sun is at a perfect spot shining from behind the trees and making everything golden.
I wanted to work on bringing out the deep fuschia tones and purples, the flowers on this gorgeous Smoove skirt are actually Tulips, but the colours are very similar to the ones within my hair flower which I made to match. The skirt has pleats though it's very full, so you get a beautiful bell shape when it's worn. I wore this without a petticoat too, so you can imagine what results you could get with extra undergarments!
I wore the skirt with a plain black stretch top, and a thin black belt. This actually makes it look like it's a full dress too. I wanted the focus to be on the skirt so the black is a good match, I didn't want too many crazy colours! (As much as I do love colour, simplicity is also my friend).
The straw hat is from Kmart (my favourite store!) they have so many great basic goodies, and they actually stock plain straw hats in all sorts of colours, plain, navy, black, white. I love my straw hats, only if it's windy are they not such a good idea...
My jewellery is also from The Vintage Vault Department, the pink and blue shades within the necklace and earrings mimic the skirt so perfectly! This set is authentic vintage, and I love how dainty the pieces are. I could easily wear them with a more formal dress, they are very elegant.
I wouldn't normally recommend black for a summer outfit, but in this case I feel that with all the colours going on the black is a perfect match and makes the deep hues stand out even more. I love my jewel tones, and this is one of my favourite outfits to date!
