It's that time of year again, and the festive season is upon us! Instead of drowning in an outfit of tacky bling, I thought I would put together something that is all round elegantly festive. The perfect Christmas Day outfit, for a girl in the southern hemisphere! How great it is to have a summer Christmas.
It can be pretty tricky trying to look great in the height of the hot weather. I admit it may not be quite as hot as Australia, and for that I am thankful! Still, the New Zealand Christmas season is when summer really starts for us, and I needed an outfit that would be perfect for the family gathering, yet classy enough to go out to dinner in, and still notably of the right season!
This dress from Portmans really takes the cake for me, the open lace pattern of the fabric is really pretty and eye catching, plus it's quite breathable. The gathered top section is so feminine with an off the shoulder cut, which by the way is very on trend at the moment. This dress nips in at the waist, then flares out in the skirt. Beautifully flattering for so many figures!
It's really simple but super cute. I decided to go for an understatement in the accessory department too, rather than gawdy oversized Christmas jewellery - these dainty pieces from Lovisa are a lovely accompaniment. The necklace has little charms you can easily mix and match, or only wear one at a time if you like. The bracelets each have different charms too, and the earrings are adorable little snowflakes. I love little charms and lots of detail so these accessories work well together.
I weighted the colour of the dress with a neutral black shoe, and matching black hair band. The tie up shoes are perfect if you have rather slender legs, and narrow feet like me! In terms of shoes the general rule is, pick a style that matches your leg and foot type - chunky styles will make wider feet look smaller, and dainty styles suit dainty feet!
All in all, it is a very practical outfit actually, and I can't wait till Christmas to wear it all day! Merry Christmas to you all, and I hope everyone has a fantastic time with family and friends.
I will be celebrating Christmas soon on my blog over the official 12 days of Christmas - which in fact starts on the 25th of December! With a fantastic list of goodies to give to you all... so stay tuned to my facebook page to see more and win yourself some Christmas goodness!
